    Dear list

I am currently preparing a HACCP Plan for Fish Meal and Fish Oil and would be grateful for any ny generic HACCP Plans that I could use as a starting point and assistance regarding hazards present in the raw materials that are of concern to animal health.

Meal/Oil is either produced at sea from whole by-catch and offcuts from processing (main species ether Hoki or Southern Blue Whiting).

On land raw materials are some whole by-catch (frozen at sea and processed on land), waste scraps etc from on-land processing (e.g. local fish processors, fish retailers etc) and salmon from local salmon farms.

A variety of spceies are mealed on land and at sea to produce light and dark fishmeal.
The main end use of fish meal (depending on grade) is feed for eels, turtles, shrimps. Low protein meal is used as livestock feed.

Are there any hazards with using farmed salmon e.g. diseases?

I have read a small amount about mycotoxins in fish meal. Is this a significant hazard?

    What about mercury?

    Any information would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

    Stella Stacey
