Hi Robert and Seafood List Subscribers:
Robert, thanks for mentioning the original name of the virus that appeared
in the infected file. I forgot to include the original name in my message
to the subscribers. [I was so overjoyed upon finally finding the viral
definition of the attached file, that I forgot to note its pseudonym,
"actmovie . e x e".]
As soon as the infected message surfaced late this afternoon, I was
hopping around the office contacting our departmental computer specialist,
and also calling the UC Davis postmaster for help. I spent about 40
minutes trying to find the definition and information on how to remove the
"actmovie" virus without any success. [By the time you read this
message, perhaps Symantec or McAffee will have already added "actmovie . e
x e" to their virus encyclopedias.]
As the error messages rapidly bounced into my mail box from servers
rejecting the message, the servers also did me a favor my consistently
identifying the "actmovie" virus by different names such as:
W32.Magistr.24876@mm,
W32/Magistr@MM, or
PE_MAGISTR.A.
