Mike, in my experience Quantab chloride titrator strips are very accurate
when tested against a standard solution of salt. Most of the error
introduced into the procedure is from sample preparation methods (like
blending and weighing samples). The most inaccurate part of your procedure
may be in the determination of moisture content. Are you using a microwave
oven? There are infrared heated moisture analysis systems which are accurate
but expensive and still do only one sample at a time. Standard laboratory
drying ovens can do hundreds of samples at one time but may require
overnight drying times depending on the nature and size of the sample.

At this time I am not aware of any salt/moisture analysis procedure for
solids which costs less, is faster, and less expensive than a
microwave/Quantab technique. Have you seen the revision of my publication on
    the subject at: http://seagrant.orst.edu/sgpubs/onlinepubs/QuickSalt.pdf?

    Listers,

We are currently using Quantab titrator strips for chloride for our salt
analysis to determine %water phase salt in product.

While the strips work OK, I am looking for a better accuracy in
determining salt content and % water phase salt.

However, we would like to keep costs and time expenditures low, and also
stay away from wet chemistry procedures (we don't really have a
chemistry lab). Kind of looks like we want both ends and the middle
here, but I may as well go for it.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!
