The e-mail I sent out this morning has caused a
nationwide firestorm. I need to clarify a few things
in order to help quell some of this heat. (1). I
learned that the oysters implicated in the referred
death were not processed using a pressurized method.
(2) My work involves microbiological examination of
foods and the purpose of my sending the e-mail out was
NOT to critise any method, but to find out,
procedurally and mechanically, how the method worked.
I had not heard of it before and was interested.
(3). I was not representing the TDH with this e-mail;
I was only representing my interests and myself.
In retrospect, I realize that I have stepped over
bounds by using my position with the TDH in the
e-mail. For this I am sorry. I am also sorry that
my information about the way the implicated oysters
were treated was incorrect. That information was not
needed in order to find out the information I actually
wanted.
Sincerely,
David Culak
