Duties and responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Service Chief, FIIU, responsible for
the co-ordination and promotion of the FAO services related to
international fish trade information and communications for FAO member
countries and for GLOBEFISH partners, in particular. Specifically, he/she
will: Provide leadership to the GLOBEFISH system and develop programmes
to facilitate international trade in fish and fishery products, including
in partnership with institutions and units inside and outside the
Organization;
Procure funding for the Globefish partnership activities and carry out
negotiations with international financing institutions and donor agencies
for technical assistance in fish trade promotion and investment projects
for implementation by partnership agencies;
Develop, maintain and adjust, through the Globefish system and according
to clients' demand, information services and products to provide
up-to-date data and information relevant for trading in fish and fishery
products; Take initiative for intensive and mutually beneficial
cooperation with the commercial sector, co-ordinating with partner
institutions events and arrangements such as industry meetings, trade
fairs and commodity conferences and maintain an effective co-operative
programme with the fishery industry on trade matters;
Co-ordinate the development of trade information systems such as the
Seafood Information System (SIS), and promote its utilization and funding
by the fish industry Co-ordinate and supervise the staff working in the
subject matter area concerned;
Collaborate with the Service Chief for an effective co-ordination of
activities of the intergovernmental/international organizations INFOFISH,
INFOPECHE, INFOPESCA, INFOSAMAK, INFOYU and EUROFISH and providing the
link to relevant headquarters based activities, and Perform other duties
as assigned.
Qualifications and experience - Essential Advanced university degree in
economics, agriculture or fishieries or university degree supplemented by
specialized studies in fish marketing and trade.
Ten years of progressively responsible experience in international
relations, information and marketing of fishery products in a large
organization. Experience in organising international conferences and
industry meetings.
Working knowledge (level C) of English, French or Spanish and a limited
knowledge (Level B) of one of the other two languages.
Ability to communicate effectively and concisely both orally and in
writing; to analyse complex issues, write clear reports and documents;
ability to develop and implement programmes and studies and to negotiate
joint programmes and funding arrangements. Computer literacy and ability
to use word processing and other office automation equipment. Initiative,
maturity, high degree of tact and discretion and ability to work
harmoniously with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Level P-5 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element
for post adjustment) from US$ 62820 to US$ 75147 (without dependents) and
from US$ 67621 to US$ 81605 (with dependents).
