Dear colleagues,
we wish to inform you that the 46th Atlantic Fishery Technology Conference
(AFTC) will be held at Rimouski (Quebec, Canada), on August 26-29 2001,
under the presidence of Dr L. Adambounou from Université du Québec à
Rimouski (lucien_adambounou@uqar.uquebec.ca). The theme of the conference
will be MANAGING RISK IN TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION FOR THE FISH INDUSTRY.
Topics of the presentations will cover three sub-themes:
1. Safety issues in the Fishery and the Aquaculture Industry, including
microbiology, phycotoxins, HACCP, traceability, depuration, environmental
and food contaminants, pathogens and viruses, and other topics.
2. New technologies for the production of fish, shellfish and by-products in
the food and non-food sectors, including biopolymers, by-products added
value, packaging, nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, non-thermal treatments,
process automation, cosmetics and other topics.
3. Economics of seafood harvesting, aquaculture and processing, including
social and economic impact analyses of the industry and policies, production
management, market and demand analyses, technical change and economic
development, and analyses of risk related to the start-up and operation of
enterprises and related topics.
The conference will be held in French and English, and oral presentations
will be simultaneously translated in both languages. Posters may be written
in both languages.
Also, the event includes a joint workshop with the West European Fish
Technologists Association (WEFTA) concerning managing risk and innovation in
smoked products.
You are kindly invited to consult the AFTC web site for all relevant
information on the conference and the first call for abstracts, as well as
