Is anybody able to help me with references regarding analysis of small fishing
harbours in EU countries/regions or in the US.
    - Analysis of their position and role in the changes the fisheries have faced
the last 10 years? Economy, development in landings, recruitment of fishermen
    etc.
    - And maybe also theoretical discussions and/or empirical analysis of possible
futures for the small fishing harbours: development perspectives and good
examples of small harbours having found their niche?

I am working on a report for the Ministry of Food in Denmark regarding the
situation in small fishing harbours in Denmark. This report should also outline
possible ways for the harbours to survive and develop as fishing harbours. In
this relation small harbours is defined as those with a total yearly value of
landings from Euro 2,7 mio to 80.000 (US$ 2,4 mio – 72.000) (which could be as
low as two full time fishermen).

These harbours are under pressure from larger harbours which slowly changes to
be resource centres providing best landing facilities and other services, and
often also better prices at the auctions than in the small harbours. But the
small harbours are basis for the coastal fisheries. Thought small in the total
fisheries, these harbour often play an important role in the local economy,
providing income and employment from the fisheries, and in many cases being the
heart of a local identity and a part of the environment or atmosphere of
    importance for tourism.

Only few references departures from the harbours. Normally the focus is on the
fisheries (or coastal fisheries as a fractions) or on coastal communities in a
    regional development perspective.
Hopefully someone know of analysis focused on development of the small
    harbours.

    Thank you
