Oldways Preservation & Exchange Trust -- developers of the Mediterranean
Diet Pyramid with the Harvard School of Public Health and World Health
Organization -- has organized this Scientific and Communications Conference
to
kick-off its new multi-year educational program about phytonutrients,
antioxidants, life-long good health, and consuming a "Daily Dozen."
The Conference will focus on (1) synthesizing the science of
antioxidants, phytonutrients, phytochemicals and other building blocks
of healthy diets, and (2) successfully communicating this synthesis to the
media
and consumers with effective messages.
The Initiative will develop specific tools to communicate powerful messages
to American consumers about: (a) the relationships
of antioxidants and phytonutrients to good health; (b) what foods and
drinks are health-protective; and (c) how consuming a Daily Dozen can be
pleasant and simple.
CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS:
o Dietitians will discuss what kinds of messages best motivate their
clients
and patients.
o World-renowned scientific experts will present
state-of-the-knowledge about antioxidants and phytonutrients.
o Leading journalists and food specialists will
participate in sessions on effective communications messages.
o Chefs and cookbook authors will discuss issues of food preparation
and palatability.
o Two communications tools ‹ a graphic (as the Mediterranean Diet
Pyramid is a communications tool) and a Periodic Table of
Antioxidants and Phytonutrients ‹ will be introduced at
the Conference to help consumers reach their Daily Dozen.
o Incredibly delicious, healthy food, including lunches designed by
three of the best known magazine test kitchens in America!
