Dear folks:
This may be out of line, but just ingulges me for this one.
As you are enjoying the fruits of democracy from the comforts of your
home, we in the Philippines are trying to preserve and restore the
democracy that we once knew.
Our current political turmoil has finally ended, with President Estrada
conceeding as resigned. At 12. 10 noon today, we now have a New
president and New government.
We did it before in 1986 to oust a dictator, without bloodshed.
We did it again this year to oust a perceived corrupt and plundering
president,
without firing a single gunshot.
Another successful un-armed, bloodless revolution.
As we foresaw that the impeachment trial is becoming a grand sham, we
took the trial to the street parliament, way of protest rallies, which
forced everybody to take sides; with officials and cabinet members,
inclusive of the Armed Forces of the Phil and the National Police,
eventually abondoning the President.
I share this notes out of joy, on the outcome of our struggle.
We are learning that, if we are as a society, to have democracy, we have
to pay the price, and earned it the hard way.
