Robin: This is a good question. But the answer is no. When we got hit
with our first virus years ago, I immediately asked our postmaster about
virus protection. Unfortunately, the listserv at the University of
California is not set up to detect viruses. Not all .exe files that are
processed via the listserv are viruses. Due to academic freedom issues,
incoming mail is not screened. The UC Davis Postmaster will be responding
with a more formal reply after discussing the issue with the new security
officer.
The best and safest options for all listserv subscribers are to:
1) install virus protection software and update it regularly.
2) avoid opening unsolicited files with .exe extensions
I hope this information helps for now. This listserv will get an official
explanation at a later from the UC Davis Postmaster.
