A colleague of mine has asked me about green material found in canned sardines. I have not seen the affected product so can not give a more detailed description than to say that it was 'dressed' (headed and tailed). I presume this meant that it should have been gutted at the same time. The manufacturer of the product put it down to a condition he called 'green feed' and attributed to heavy feeding on plankton.

Has anyone come across this condition and are their any safety implications or is it a quality issue?
