PVP used in transporting fish

Does anyone know anything about the use of PVP (polyvinlypyrrolidone) in
transporting fish esp. tropical fish?
I know PVP-I (betadine) is used as a topical anti-infective and sometimes is
used to treat farm raised fish in the water.
Any help would be appreciated.
