AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A SHORT TERM ASSIGNMENT WITH FAO
The Fish Utilization and Marketing Service of the FAO Fishery Industries
Division is looking for a fish technologist with above average computer
skills to assist with the development and construction of the electronic
knowledge bases that the Service requires to collect and disseminate
information. The position at FAO Headquarters in Rome is open now and is
tenable for a period of 11 months. An outline of the requirements is given
below:
Under the general supervision of the Chief, Fish Utilization and Marketing
Service, and relying heavily on inputs from other Fishery Industry Officers
covering specific technical fields, the incumbent will be responsible for
the design and development of the electronic technological knowledge bases
required by the Fish Utilization and Marketing Service.
Specifically the incumbent will:
1. Assist with the determination of the requirements for electronic
knowledge bases in the general field of fish utilization, subdivided into
quality and safety and fish technology
2. Design a knowledge base structure to include as a minimum the
following elements:
Technology: institute data base, glossary, proximate composition and
conversion factors.
Quality and safety: hazard guide, quality criteria, regulations,
defects and public health safety data.
3. In cooperation with other officers assemble the knowledge objects
needed and input them into an accessible and searchable structure
4. Perform other related duties as assigned.
