Hello Jan,
Just wanted to add my 2 cents re the Pretty Park virus last week.
I had McAfee's virus scan data 4.0.4066 already installed in my computer
when I detached the .exe file. The scan is set to operate when I
detach, so that it will warn me, as I detach it, whether a file has a
virus. With this virus, I got no warning from McAfee. When I clicked
on the .exe file in Windows Explorer, nothing happened. I did so again,
same thing. Then I saw the virus warning from a mail subscriber, so
deleted the file from my hard drive.
Then I scanned my hard drive - no virus was detected. However when I
downloaded the 4.0.4067 data from McAfee, then rebooted my computer, it
said File .32VXD was needed for opening a number of applications
including Netscape, Win Explorer, MS Front Page, etc.
So, in spite of having everything in place, this trojan virus did get
into my system - McAfee did not find it when I detached the file from my
e-mail note. Fortunately, all that was needed to fix my problem was
removal of that piece of info. in my system files that said this mystery
file was needed before running some applications. Our techie fixed this
for me in about 10 mins.
I was fortunate - and will be extremely cautious about any .exe file
that I get!
