    The rumor is exactly that, a rumor. One that need not be contented. There
    is absolutely no relationship or known threat of "mad cow disease, being
    transmitted by salmonids. There is also no known prion type disease
    transmitted by fish, particularly to humans, that causes any disease if this
    type. . That however has not prevented some salmon farmers in Europe from
    excluding salmon waste products in their feed formulations. IT is
    unfortunate because it reduces a prime use of such waste. In reality, a
    highly efficient means of recycling. It should be noted that the one of the
    primary feed sources for salmon, at several stages of their development, is
    other salmon. Salmon predate on other species as well as heir own. Just
    remember the ASMI marketing slogan of a few years ago-
    "Alaska Salmon may be a little wild, but they are never mad"
