Dear all

In my message of 23 January on this topic, I wrote that I had not come
across any examples of pasty (I prefer the term 'pasty' to 'mushy' as I
think the former describes the texture more correctly), mackerel myself.
Two of my colleagues from Torry Research Station days have written to me
tell me that examples were seen by Torry staff, in the field and forwarded
by processors, though very uncommon. The examples tended be large fish, and
in one case examined, the parasite was tentatively identified as
Chloromyxum histolyticum.
