Dear Seafood Technologists, Marine Extension Agents, Seafood Processors, and
others,
Please excuse duplication of this message.
Please consider joining us for IIFET 2000, the tenth biennial conference of
the International Institute of Fisheries Economics and Trade (IIFET), to be
held at Oregon State University, July 10-14 2000. This notice is to remind
you that just one week remains before the January 31, 2000 abstract
submission deadline; please consider submitting a 250 word abstract over the
Website (click on "Abstract Submission") or email it directly to
Debi.Mandigo@orst.edu. The conference Website at
http://www.orst.edu/Dept/IIFET/2000 has everything you need to participate.
The main theme of the conference is Microbehavior and Macroresults, or the
ways in which individual behavior cumulate to create economic and social
results. A primary focus will be on how behavior of fishermen and consumers
affects marine resources and the markets for seafood. You will have valuable
input to offer us from other disciplines, on issues such as Equity,
Efficiency and Communities; Tastes and Food Consumption; Consumer Demand for
Seafood; Seller Decisions and Market Supply; Non-price Competition
(including eco-labeling); Nutrition, Human Health and Consumer Behavior; or
Health, Safety and Consumer Choice (including HACCP), plus many, many
others. For a complete list of topics, go to the main conference Website and
navigate the links from "Themes and Program", or click directly on
http://www.orst.edu/Dept/IIFET/2000/topics.html. Click on any highlighted
topic to see what is already being organized, but note that this is only the
beginning! Many additional sessions are and will be organized--we're only
waiting for your abstract to complete the program. To submit an abstract,
navigate from "Abstract Submission" or go directly to
http://www.orst.edu/Dept/IIFET/2000/abstract.html.
A list of the speakers who have already agreed to join us is found at
http://www.orst.edu/Dept/IIFET/2000/speakers.html. Please note that the list
is growing daily. Some of the names you may recognize include Jim Bergeron
(Marine Advisory Program, Oregon), Robert Ackman (Canadian Institute of
Fisheries Technology), Michael Morrissey (OSU Seafood Lab), Bill Herzig
(Darden Restaurants), Ian Newton (Roche Vitamins), Rod Moore (West Coast
Seafood Processors), Rosemary Wander (Dept. of Nutrition, U of North
Carolina) and Dick Gutting (NFI). Don't be surprised to find many of your
colleagues on the list, and don't hesitate to send in an abstract, so we can
add yours! Please submit an abstract via the Website; if you can not make
the deadline but want to join us, please contact us
(Ann.L.Shriver@orst.edu).
We look forward to meeting you July 10-14, 2000, here at Oregon State
University. Please consider bringing your family for a visit to Oregon's
beautiful Willamette Valley and coast; companion activities will be provided
and many informative tourism links are provided under "Tourism" on the front
page of the Website.
Please share this information with any you feel may be interested.
Sincerely,
