Dear Workgroup Members:
This is a bit off the subject of organic farming per se, but this listserve
respresents a good cross section of advisors and others working in
sustainable agriculture, so I thought I'd pose this question to you
all. I've been asked by the national SARE program to make some suggestions
for young farmers/ranchers/ag business people who they might profile in a
new book. See their message below. Emphasis is on young (in their 20s),
innovative entrepreneurs who are emphasizing sustainable ag practices in
their operations. Also emphasis is on rural not urban ag
businesses/projects. If you have ideas, send your message to me
directly-- don't send to the workgroup
listserve. dechaney@ucdavis.edu THANKS!

The sustainable agriculture program at USDA (SARE) is collaborating with
Minneapolis-based group, Renewing the Countryside, to develop a book about
young-adult-led renewal in rural America with a working title of Youth
Renewing the Countryside. "Youth" in this context refers to 20-somethings
who are making a real difference in their rural communities. The actual
stories (40-50) and photos will be created by young adults themselves with
the guidance of professional writers and photographers.
Topics of interest include: farm-to-school programs, renewable energy,
community gardens, entrepreneurial endeavors, new farms, etc.
I request your help in identifying SARE-funded projects or any other
success stories involving young adults (20s and 30s) related to sustainable
agriculture. Again, our focus is rural America and young adults affecting
change through community development/leadership.
