Please plan to join us at the "International Conference on The
Future of Agriculture: Science, Stewardship, and
Sustainability", to be held August 7-9, 2006 at the Hyatt
Regency in downtown Sacramento, California, USA. The conference
is sponsored by the US EPA ORD Hazardous Substance Technical
Liaisons Program, the National Institute of Environmental Health
Sciences, the Midwest Hazardous Substance Research
Center--Kansas State University, the California Department of
Food and Agriculture, and California EPA.

CALL FOR PAPERS
We invite you to participate in the conference by submitting an
abstract for an oral presentation or a poster presentation. The
deadline for submissions is WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1, 2006. A
suggested topics list appears below.
Conference participants will come together in technical
sessions, panel presentations, and interactive group discussions
to develop strategies for addressing pressing environmental
issues in agriculture through the integration of science,
technology, and policy. The objectives of this conference are:
* To discuss success stories in the areas of: air quality,
water quality, waste management, and environmental stewardship;
linking promising research and lessons learned from EPA's
Superfund Program and other arenas (state of the science) with
on-the-ground agricultural activities (state of the practice).
* To exchange knowledge on best management practices and
technical solutions for the agricultural setting.
* To bring agriculture and environmental managers together to
advance environmental stewardship.
* To integrate consideration for sustainable practices into
planning, policy and regulations development, and
decision-making, and to develop incentive strategies for their
adoption.
PRESENTATION TOPICS
Presentation topics may address case studies, policy,
regulations, technology transfer, and research related to:
Waste Management / Cleanup
* Remediation/cleanup technology transfer (Superfund to
Agricultural issues); Animal waste/CAFOs (emissions -VOCs and
particulate matter, salts, nutrients), renewable energy
recovery; soil and water contaminants; Economics;
Regulatory/Policy Issues; etc.
Resource Management
* Soil and ecosystem health, Biological resources and
biodiversity; Soil erosion; Salinity; Water quality and
quantity; Agricultural burning; particulate matter, Land
restoration; Conservation tillage; etc.
Pest Management and Nutrient Management
* Pesticides and air quality (VOCs, fumigants, etc.,);
Pesticide/nutrients and water quality (pyrethroids, OPs, etc.);
Pesticide drift and run-off; Invasive/exotic species; GMOs,
Occupational exposure; BMPs; Integrated Pest Management;
International issues; etc.
Whole Systems-Capstone Session
* Biologically-integrated farming systems, Urban-Agriculture
Interface Topics (e.g., multimedia issues, land use, etc.); Role
of agriculture in enhancing wildlife and wetlands
