Subject: Re: NPB TUTORS
Debbie & NPB club,
I recently interviewed with Susan Buff from Graduate Tutuorial
Services. She was the one who recently requested an NPB 12 tutor. I
have to say that this is the most incredible tutoring system ever. Her
tutors are considered independent contractors that bill her for the
tutoring service. Her job is to find exceptional tutors and students
that need tutoring, negotiate pricing, and set up the connections. The
cut she takes is minimal compared to other companies, and she pays
$17.50 to $25 per hr., though she said she could pay more for
highschoolers since the parents are better able to pay the higher
prices. She gave an example of her son making $12/hr at this other
company, which was charging the student $60/hr. In contrast, she might
charge $50/hr to the parent and pay the tutor $35/hr. She makes sure
that she has capable tutors for specific subjects or classes before
advertising at the schools for those classes so she knows there's
always someone that can take the job. Her service is very prompt, and
she can make connections within hours, depending on availability. The
tutoring hours are completely flexible, depending on who can do what,
when. And the pay depends on each individual job, as she negotiates
with each case individually. But again, she pays at least $17.50/hr.
I mention this because I feel that NPB club should be notified
(website, meetings--even see if she wants to go to a meeting to talk
about it?) that there is a great resource for tutoring servicing the
UCD / CSU Sac colleges (and some highschools), and if there are people
that wish to tutor, this is a great opportunity for them as well. It's
obvious that she tries hard to not rip anyone off (the students or the
tutors). Debbie should know that I wouldn't praise this company unless
it was worthy of praise.
I should note that most of her tutors are graduates, grad students, or
those with advanced degrees. However, she can still use college
student tutors. Also, it can be for any subject or class and for
highschool or college. If anyone is interested in finding tutoring or
being a tutor, she gave her information in that e-mail sent to the
listserve (see below).
Let me know what you guys think!
thanks,
Aaron Warren
P.S. some of the officer pictures on the website aren't showing up. If
it's because you haven't taken a picture yet, I have a [?] picture
uploaded somewhere in there for you to use in its place. Hope all is
well with the club!
