Announcing the Winter Quarter Internship with the UC Davis Children's
Garden Program!!
KIDS IN THE GARDEN (a.k.a. Preparatory for Field Work in Environmental and
Agricultural Education) There is still room in this course. Please enroll

This is a 2-unit docent-training course offered during winter quarter for
students who will guide elementary school children in activities with the
UC Davis Children's Garden Program in spring of 2000. The internship is
designed to teach students the basic biological, ecological and
agricultural principals upon which the garden ecosystem is based while
giving them the pedagogical techniques and practice required to make them
effective teachers.
The docent-training includes lectures, discussions and field work in the
Ecological Garden at the Plant Science Teaching Center and Student Farm.
Students develop garden activities for children and take a field trip to
visit area school gardens. The lectures cover background information on
topics such as botany, soil fertility, nutrition, and outdoor education as
they relate to this program and this garden site. To receive credit,
attendance and participation in class activities are required along with
the completion of a final project and a passing grade on a final test.
We will accept 25 students into this internship. There are no
prerequisites other than interest, enthusiasm, and willingness to work
outdoors during winter quarter. The class will meet Wednesdays 5:00-6:00
p.m. and Fridays 1:00-4:00 p.m. Units offered for this class are
internship units. Enroll in CRN #62832 for ASE 92 (lower division) OR CRN
#62891 for ASE 192(upper division). Register for 2 units only.
