Here are some great opportunities for gaining that all important volunteer
and work experience in dietetics:
1.) University Retirement Community facility in Davis: *I don't know if
they have openings for paid summer food service positions, but since this
facility has just recently opened it might be a good bet.
2.)Travis AFB: *this is a volunteer position for the summer. They hope to
formalize the position as a clinical internship through the UCD ICC by next
fall. Currently, you will need to directly contact the person listed
below. A former UCD student volunteered here for the past year and found
it very valuable. The position is available as of June.
Contact person- Captain Deborah Carlton -(707) 423-3674
Hours needed- M-F 8 to 5 (Any four hour span during this period of time
frame.)
Once the student has contacted Captain Carlton and discussed a time schedule
then they will need to contact the American Red Cross and go through a four
hour military orientation. This needs to be done prior to starting and the
Base only offers it once a month. This is a volunteer position only, but
will offer great working experience in clinical dietetics. Also the student
may receive an excellent letter of referrence from Colonel Meyers, Chief
Consultant to Air Force Surgeon General For Nutrition and Dietetics.
3) Diet Technician - Yountville Veterans Home of California: *this paid
position is for graduates only and is an opportunity to get wonderful
experience prior to applying for an ADA internship. Former UCD students
have worked here as diet techs. I have a copy of the job description and
duties; if you would like a copy please contact me.
The job opening is for a dietetic technician, starting in August 2000.
This is a full time position (40 hours/week) with full
benefits (medical, dental, vision, etc.).
