VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for Four Health Studies
Volunteers are needed for two new nutrition studies, as well as two other
studies (final recruitment) through the USDA, Agricultural Research Service
Western Human Nutrition Research Center on campus:
CARBOHYDRATES AND METABOLISM STUDY
For Overweight Women
USDA Western Human Nutrition Research Center needs healthy women - ages
18-48, non-smoking, who are not pregnant or planning a pregnancy, and who
are 10 - 40 lbs overweight - to participate in a research study. The
purpose of the study is to determine how different types of dietary
carbohydrate affect metabolism. Study visits are on the UC Davis campus.
Volunteers must be able to spend two full days in our facility for
metabolic testing. Upon completion of study participation, volunteers
receive $225 in stipends.

RESEARCH STUDY OF A NEW METABOLIC INSTRUMENT
Healthy men and women volunteers, ages 18 - 65, non-smokers, with no known
metabolic disease such as diabetes, are needed for the testing of a new
metabolic instrument. Volunteers receive knowledge of their metabolic rate
and how their body metabolizes a meal. This is a collaborative study
between UC Davis and the USDA Western Human Nutrition Research Center.

SELENIUM STUDY for MEN

USDA Western Human Nutrition Research Center needs 8 more volunteers to
participate in a Selenium Study. Selenium is a trace mineral essential for
normal health and may protect against certain types of cancers. Healthy
men, who will be staying in the Davis area through the summer, ages 18-45,
non-smoking, are needed for a 2-year study. In the first year there are 17
visits to the UC Davis campus and 3 visits to UCDMC. In the second year
there are only 4 visits! Upon completion of the study, a total stipend of
$1,300 will be received

NUTRITION STUDY FOR PEOPLE WITH SPINAL CORD INJURIES
Western Human Nutrition Research Center needs five (5) healthy men and
women ages 18 to 65 with spinal cord injury resulting in paraplegia or
quadriplegia for immediate participation. The nutrition status of
participants will be studied with the goal of setting more appropriate
guidelines. Study visit is a one 3-hour visit at the UC Davis campus or at
the UCD Medical Center, ACC Building. Volunteers receive a stipend of $50
and a free nutrient assessment ($150 value).
