    Library Management Division Program for the SLA Annual Conference
    Los Angeles, CA
    June 7-13, 2002
      
    The program for the Library Management Division for the 2002 Annual Conference in Los Angeles contains something for everyone. From basic levels to the most advanced and from practical tools to networking and technology, you will gain new skills and knowledge if you attend this year's conference.
      
    We begin on Saturday, June 8th with two continuing education courses, Project Management: From Inception to Completion and Business
    Planning; and Positioning for Success.

    The former course will combine lectures with small group activities and discussion. It will cover Critical Path Analysis, Gantt and PERT charts. The instructors will be Chris Dobson and Carolyn Ernst. The latter course will be taught by Jane Dysart and Mary Lee Kennedy. Both will advance your career!! Which will you sign up for?
      
    Sunday and Monday nights LMD will host an open house in the LMD suite where quality bonding also known as networking will take place from 9 p.m. until midnight. This event is sponsored by IDC and Microsoft and will feature scintillating personalities PLUS snacks and beverages!!
      
    Monday, June 10th, we begin early with our traditional Mentoring Continental Breakfast in the LMD hotel suite at the Westin Bonaventure from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. Sponsored by LexisNexis ,this is a chance to meet with more experienced LMD members and get questions answered about your career, the conference, the association or the profession. Should you miss this event, please note that it will also be held on Tuesday morning, same time, same place.
      
    At 11:30 a.m. on Monday will be the annual LMD Business meeting and luncheon, the highlight of which will be the awarding to Lois WeinsteinOf the Karen J. Swift Leadership Award sponsored by C. Berger Group, Inc. Basch Subscriptions is also a sponsor of the luncheon.
      
       Are you wondering "What it Takes to Be a Leader in 2002? Come to this roundtable discussion at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel on Monday at
    3:30 p.m. sponsored by Factiva. This discussion will be continued with a wine and cheese reception at the LMD suite, also in the hotel. This is a two part event, so don't quit after the first part, continue the experience and network with the leaders of today and tomorrow.
      
       Tuesday, June 11th begins with the Mentoring Breakfast described
    above. Also on Tuesday morning, the Knowledge Management Section will begin at 7:00 a.m. with their breakfast and program, "Beyond Programs and Systems: Organization Design for Knowledge". The speaker will be Susan Mohrman and the sponsor is LexisNexis. Contact Judy Field for more detailed information.
      
       At 9:30 a.m. there is a program to fit into your Practitioner's
    Toolkit called, Collaboratory Communities - Case Studies. Many institutions are using this technology that includes software such as Netmeeting to reduce travel and increase communication. Stephen Abram will moderate a panel and IDC will be our sponsor.

    At 11:30 a.m., the Consulting Section is presenting and Dialog is sponsoring a luncheon program called, "Winning in the Board Room". Anne Foster will offer some coaching insights to the attendees that will empower them to meet and speak to the highest echelons in any organization.        Rounding out Tuesday's program will be the Global Content Buyers' Roundtable moderated by Janice Keeler and sponsored by Outsell. This will begin at 3:30 p.m. Colleagues will share best practices and tips on issues regarding global content and global audiences.

       Also at 3:30 p.m. will be the first meeting of the new Competitve Intelligence section. It will be held in the San Pedro Room at the Westin hotel. It will include a 30 minute speech about CI by Ron Bienvenu, Chief Planning Officer of Divine. Contact Mala Sistla for more information.

      The Information Futurists Caucus will meet that afternoon at 5:30 p.m. to discuss, what else, the future! The sponsor for this event is LexisNexis. Katherine Bertolucci has more information on this event, should you need it.
      
       Wednesday, June 12th will star an excellent program, "Knowledge
     Management and the Power of Storytelling". Richard Stone, noted speaker and founder of the Storytelling Institute will show you how to incorporate this technique and succeed in getting your library or information center's budget approved and your library noticed. Dialog will sponsor this event which begins at 2:00 p.m.
      
       Finally, on Wednesday, we close with Jane Dysart's annual Wrap Up
     Session starring Stephen Abram, Brent Mai, Donna Scheeder and Richard Hulser as panelists. LexisNexis is the sponsor for this special event.
