Dr. Rasha al-Disuqi is a West Coast based professor, author and activist.
She is a well known scholar in the USA and Canada. Her pursuit for knowledge
ranged from Cairo University to Cincinnati to the United Kingdom where she
earned a Ph.D. in Islamic Studies from the University of Wales. Vindicating
the Muslims' image and presenting Islam to the American public has been her
prime concern.
Dr. al-Disuqi has taught English and Islam at the university level for more
than fifteen years. She lectures on "Islam in America" at California
Polytechnic State University. As an impressive public speaker, she has been
invited nation-wide in community centers, churches and various university
campuses to present women's rights, youth issues and rearing children in
Islam.
She has published both in Arabic and in English numerous articles in
prominent international and local journals on Muslims; in literature,
economic and political issues, women in Islam, and their public role at the
social and political levels. Her recent work is a book entitled: "The
Resurgent Voice of Muslim Women". In addition, Dr. al-Disuqi has attended
United Nations' Conferences on Women and the family in both Beijing and
Turkey.
Dr. al-Disuqi is the wife of a very supportive husband, a mother of three
daughters and a grandmother of two girls, Tasneem and Selsabeel.
