I wasn't watching closely enough to be sure whether or not this Hindenburg
thread came to a suitable conclusion, but I did pose the question to a
tuner/technician friend of mine living in England (who was on holiday for the
last few weeks). He asked Barrie Heaton who runs the history page on the UK
piano web site. The answer was:

It was a Bluthner baby grand piano, made
mostly of aluminium and covered with pigskin,

I have tried the above address without success, but a search for Bluthner
yielded the following page, which includes a one or two sentence reference to
the piano in question in a general history of the company.
