But that isn't what the original posted said the notes said. The words
"static" and "plot" were not used. I got the impression that we were
being invited to hear the arias as themselves carriers of action, albeit
not of the kind that the recitative provides. This seems to me at least a
tenable point of view, and an invitation to a useful way of experiencing
the musical activity that the arias do contain.
But it may be that I'm extrapolating extravagantly. Might we hear the
name of the program note's author, and maybe a few sentences from it?
