Not all VCRs fail the Y2K test. The next time you have to set your VCR's
clock, check how late a year it will accept. The one I use (not a fancy
one, by any means) is quite willing to be set to 2000, or 2001, or 2005.
I haven't tried it any later than that, but suspect that it would work
just fine.

As for the suggestion to set the VCR back to 1972, because the days of the
week were the same, I wonder whether that's practical. Since there were no
home VCRs in 1972, would the clocks really go that far back?
