Theresa Muir is exactly right -- Ellington did arrange many of the numbers
from the Nutcracker Suite. In fact, Ellington's Nutcracker was the basis
for Donald Byrd's "Harlem Nutcracker." And here at the U of Iowa, our
Johnson County Landmark jazz band did a performance of the Ellington
Nutcracker before Christmas, with choregraphy by a grduate dance student,
that twice filled our recital hall with standing-room-only crowd.
