    Reader/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Music

    Applications are invited for a Readership/Senior Lecturership/Lecturership
    in Music, tenable from 1 September 2002 or as soon as possible thereafter.
    The successful candidate will be expected to have a strong record of
    academic achievement, including research, publications and teaching, in
    the field of late-medieval/early modern music. Teaching and/or research
    expertise in a second period or field of musicological study (including,
    but not restricted to, music history, theory and analysis,
    ethnomusicology, and performance studies) may be advantageous. The
    successful candidate will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and
    postgraduate teaching, to supervise research students, and to engage in
    research and publication in formats consonant with the Department's
    research strategy.

    The Music Department at Royal Holloway was awarded the top rating of 5* in
    the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise; it was the highest-rated music
    department in the University of London and one of only three in the UK to
    be awarded the 5* rating in both 1996 and 2001. The Department has
    eighteen academic staff, including four full professors, one reader, four
    senior lecturers, five lecturers and four externally-funded postdoctoral
    fellows. Salary, including London allowance, will be on the scale
    £30736-£40737 (Reader) £36292-£40737 (Senior Lecturer) or £22,604-£34,671
