Are you Y2K compliant? What do you think that you'll be doing in the new
millenium?
When you think about how far libraries have come in the last one hundred
years (closed stacks, treatises arranged by author or color); within the
last twenty five years (imagine the excitement of throwing out those stencil
machines and receiving catalog cards in the mail); within the past decade
(the Internet age) – is it difficult to imagine what the next decade will
bring? Well, the future is now and as we all know, change is the only
reliable constant.
These are just a few of the issues that we face:
Will Technical Services be on the cutting edge in road-mapping the Internet?
How can we do it?
Will technology force Technical Services out of the library? What will be
outsourced next? How can we influence decisions to insure that the best
choices are made for the right reasons?
What staff requirements should we prepare for? How will we be able to
attract and retain good staff?
Join your colleagues through AALL’s next moderated discussion list in a
stimulating discussion of Technical Services at the dawn of a new century.
Led by Janet McKinney, Director of Collection Resources at the University of
Missouri-Kansas City Leon E. Bloch Law Library and Chair of the Technical
Services Special Interest Section, the discussion will provide a lively
dialogue on the various viewpoints of Technical Services in the 21st
