The Academic Law Libraries SIS would like to remind everyone of the
newly created Frederick Charles Hicks Award for Outstanding
Contributions to Academic Law Librarianship, to be presented for the
first time in 2000. This award is designed to honor outstanding
contributions that have been made to academic law librarianship by an
individual or group. A full description of the award is printed below.
Please consider nominating yourself or one of your colleagues.
Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2000 award, and should
be submitted by February 1 to the Chair of the ALL-SIS Awards Committee:

The Frederick Charles Hicks Award for Outstanding
Contributions to Academic Law Librarianship
1.NAME. This award, established by the Academic Law Libraries Special
Interest Section of the American Association of Law Libraries, is named
in honor of Frederick Charles Hicks, the first great American law
librarian/scholar, who was also the first academic law librarian to be
president of AALL. A plaque will be presented to the person or persons
honored.
2.DEFINITION AND CRITERIA. The purpose of this award is to recognize
outstanding contributions to academic law librarianship by an individual
or group. Recipients may be recognized for achievement in a particular
area of academic law librarianship, for service to AALL or to the
ALL-SIS, or for contributions to the professional literature. These
contributions or service should be extended and sustained.
3.PROCEDURE FOR SUBMITTING A NOMINATION. Members of AALL may submit
to the Chair of the ALL-SIS Awards Committee the names of persons who
they believe are worthy of consideration for this award. Preference will
be given to nominees who are members of the ALL-SIS. The Awards
Committee is responsible for publicizing the existence and purpose of
the award and for soliciting nominations through appropriate channels.
Letters of nomination should include the candidate's full name,
title, and institution name and address. (If the candidate is retired,
include name, home address, and most recent former employer.)
Individuals may nominate themselves or others. Nominations must be
accompanied by supporting documentation, such as a curriculum vitae for
the candidate, a listing and explanation of significant projects,
programs, or publications of this person, or a detailed description of
his/her work with respect to academic law libraries. All documentation
must be submitted in printed form to the Chair of the ALL-SIS Awards
Committee.
