Y'All--
We're trying to determine the validity of a 1986 marriage for a couple
married in Guanajuarto, Mexico. They were uncle and niece, as her father
was the groom's brother. Martindale Hubbell Law Digest states that
prohibited marriages include marriages "... between uncles and nieces, aunts
and nephews of third degree, but ... a dispensation may be obtained."
Our questions are these:
1. How is "third degree" determined under the laws of Mexico?
2. How is a dispensation obtained?
3. What documents would be issued proving that a dispensation was
granted?
We THINK we know the meaning of "third degree" as used above, but personally
I wouldn't bet next month's mortgage payment that we're right.
TIA for any help you can give on this. I'm totally lost.
