As requested, here is a summary of what I learned regarding which "major"
government documents are available on the Web. Thanks especially to
Barbara Avery and Jorene Robbie who provided two of the sources listed
below. I also received several responses directing me to useful general
government documents sites (one favorite was at Michigan -
http://www.lib.umich.edu/libhome/Documents.center/ .)

I found 3 useful sources. The one that most directly answers my question is
at http://www.columbia.edu/cu/libraries/indiv/dsc/readyref.html#Intro .

In addition, a website indicating CD-ROMs now available on the Web is at
http://www.lib.umich.edu/libhome/Documents.center/cicdoc/cicdoc.htm

Finally, for questions regarding specific documents, the print source
Government Information on the Internet, 2ed. by Greg R. Notess has an
index of government documents by SuDoc number and where these can be found
on the Web .

Thanks to all for your assistance.
Lisa
