I note several emails with concerns about Legaltrac on the Web and wished
to add my two cents. We (me, the Harvard Law Library reference librarians,
our head of Technical Services and a representative of the Harvard Library
Systems office (because Legaltrac is mounted on our university web site)
)met with Tom Stanton, the head of Gale Product Development last week to
voice our loud displeasure with several aspects of the product, including
but not limited to--inability to search by case name, receiving every
record you want delivered by email as a separate message rather than a
single list, bizarre and inconconsistent su= results, inaccuracies in the
database such as failure to retrieve second authors and typographical
errors, no ability to do exact title or author searches, little
information about full text availability, and a strange interface between
full text and citations (especially noticeable when printing). He informed
us that the company has imposed a Y2K freeze so none of our complaints
could be addressed until after January 2,2000, but he did seem willing to
listen.
You might address your complaints, with specific examples of what does not
please you, to:
I am not representing Harvard University, the Harvard Law School, or the
Harvard Law Library in sending this message; it is a purely personal plea
from a teacher of legal research who is very frustrated with this product.
