Law Center
Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Dean of the Law
Center. As the senior academic administrator of the center, the Dean
reports directly to the University's Chief Academic Officer and serves as a
member of the Council of Deans.
The Law Center has 50 full-time faculty and enrolls a total of 1100
students. In addition to offering a vibrant J.D. program, the Law Center
offers LL.M. concentrations in health law; taxation; energy, environment and
natural resources; international economics; and intellectual property. The
Law Center is fully accredited by the American Bar Association and is a
member of the Association of American Law Schools. The Law Center is home
to a number of research centers and institutes including the Health Law and
Policy Institute and the Intellectual Property and Information Law
Institute.
The Law Center welcomes candidates who have a J.D. degree or equivalent and
a proven track record of outstanding teaching and scholarly work that would
qualify for appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure. The
candidate should be familiar with contemporary issues in legal education and
should have experience in academic administration. The Dean is expected to
enhance the academic programs of the Law Center, work with a diverse and
talented faculty, be actively engaged in the life of the community, and lead
the resource development programs of the Law Center. The Law Center is
emerging as one of the truly great public law schools of the country and is
looking for a Dean who shares in this vision.
The Law Center is a part of the University of Houston, a comprehensive
research and doctoral granting institution, situated on a beautiful 550-acre
campus. The university's diverse student population exceeds 32,500 with
over 900 ranked faculty. The university offers a wide range of programs
including a number of nationally ranked graduate and professional programs.
Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States with a wide range of
cultural and community activities, including a professional symphony, opera,
ballet and theater. Houston is a dynamic city in a state with a strong and
growing economy.
