Amazon.com responds to my letter to them about their new policy:

We have great respect for your privacy. We aggregate anonymous data
to generate the bestseller lists for our Purchase Circles, and none of
the data is associated with any individual's name. As an additional
measure to ensure confidentiality, Amazon.com only creates Purchase
Circles when at least 200 Amazon.com customers are associated with a
particular group.

We hope you will find this service useful and enjoyable. However, if
you, as an individual, don't want your information to be anonymously
included in any relevant Purchase Circles, simply send an email to
no-purchase-circles@amazon.com.

If you represent a company or organization that wishes to have its
Purchase Circle list removed, please send a fax from an authorized
representative on the organization's letterhead to 1-206-266-1357.
Please include an email address so that we can confirm that we've
received your request.
