One of the most important things we as librarians do is keep up to date on
developments in the profession. The typical way to do this is to read
relevant professional literature. The problem is narrowing down the
available reading material, as we all know there's much more out there than
we could possibly ever handle.

One publication that should be on everyone's short list is Perspectives:
Teaching Legal Research and Writing. This publication, begun in 1992, is a
forum for all teachers of legal research and writing. "Teaching" is
defined broadly to encompass activities ranging from one-on-one
instruction, such as that at the reference desk, to that in scheduled
classes. By this definition, almost all of us are teachers.

Perspectives: Teaching Legal Research and Writing focuses on practical and
functional articles. It also publishes pieces on the more theoretical
foundations of legal research and writing. You'll find "how to" articles,
"our question-your answers," teachable moments, writing tips, and
bibliographies of recent legal research and writing resources. A new
feature in coming issues will be a technology in teaching column. The
editorial board includes law librarians from all types of libraries as well
as legal research and writing professors.

The journal is published three times a year, and is available at no cost.
Subscriptions can be entered by visiting the online version at

subscription to West Group, 620 Opperman Drive, P.O. Box 64833, St. Paul,
MN 55164-9777 attn: B. Burmeister D5-C, E12-04. However you choose to
communicate, do it now! Perspectives: Teaching Legal Research and Writing
should be in everyone's "must read" stack.
