Gayle O'Connor's message with regard to her conversation with Steve Schwarz of our staff at Villanova University Law School was forwarded to me today. Ms. O'Connor misunderstood parts of her conversation with Steve. The facts are as follows:
1. The Center for Information Law and Policy has been a separate entity from the law school for a number of years, and has run on separate servers not under the control of the law school.
2. Last month the law school inherited the aging servers on which the Federal Web Locator and the 3rd and 9th Circuit downloads, as well as several other CILP functions, run. We did not inherit any of the CILP personnel.
3. At the time of the server transfer, in conjunction with Chicago-Kent Law School, it was decided that former CILP functions would be split. A redirection page was being installed, indicating, depending upon which resource is needed, whether it would reside at Villanova or Chicago-Kent.
4. That redirection page will be up by the end of next week. You can still use the cilp.org domain name, which should be active for the next year.
5. Three weeks ago, as we were beginning to map the drives from these old servers, in preparation for the transfer, the old CILP servers, not yet administered by our staff, were hacked into and went down. These servers will probably not be running again. The good news is that we were able to save all the data in regard to the Federal and State Web Locators, and archives for the 3rd and 9th Circuits, as well as other databases. All functions will be returning, with the additions of some new and valuable resources. The only function which may take us several weeks is the current downloads for the 3rd and 9th Circuits.
I know that we have many friends on this listserv and that you have been very supportive of our efforts. We and Chicago-Kent will have everything returned to normal shortly.
