CATALOGING/TECHNOLOGY LIBRARIAN
Texas Tech University School of Law Library has an opening for a
Cataloging/Technology Librarian. Primary responsibilities include original
and complex copy cataloging of legal materials in all formats, including
electronic and internet resources, authority control, and database
maintenance. The Cataloger will train and supervise one copy cataloger,
and serve as resource person to all library staff in cataloging matters;
the candidate will keep abreast of developing trends in cataloging and
record maintenance. The Law Library shares a DRA OPAC with the University
Libraries, and the Cataloger, along with the Head of Technical Services
when necessary, acts as liaison to the University Libraries' Cataloging
Dept., attending meetings and participating in database decisions.
This position is also responsible for maintenance and trouble-shooting of
Library PCs, printers, and other related hardware, and acts as the initial
contact point for staff computer-related problems. (The Law School has a
systems person on staff who handles difficult problems and overall systems
maintenance.) The candidate will be expected to perform some software
installation and other routine operations, to plan for hardware and wiring
updates as software (OCLC or DRA, for example) requires it, and to have
basic knowledge of computers running in a networked environment. The
candidate will monitor technological developments and applications which
support library operations, and evaluate, assess, and recommend those
which enhance library service. This person will serve as the Law Library
liaison with both the University Libraries' Information and Technology
Services Dept. and the Law School's System Manager, as needed. This person
also shares responsibility for the design and maintenance of the Law
Library's Webpage.
This position reports to the Head of Technical Services. QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: MLS from an ALA-accredited program, demonstrated experience with
a bibliographic utility, LC subject headings, LC classification, AACR2 and
MARC formats. Evidence of knowledge and expertise with microcomputer
applications. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Preferred:
Experience with DRA, some supervisory experience, experience with
Windows98/NT.
Minimum salary $28,128. Choice of retirement programs, including
TIAA-CREF. No state income tax.
