CALIFORNIA COALITION AGAINST SEXUAL ASSAULT

INFORMATION SPECIALIST

PURPOSE OF POSITION
Under the direction of the Rape Prevention Resource Center Librarian, the
Information Specialist participates in all aspects of the day to day
operations of the resource library including; reference, research, and
document delivery. Includes responsibility for the distribution, management
and control of information products prepared by the Resource Center to fill
the "clearinghouse" function. The Information Specialist conducts research,
synthesizes existing information and makes referrals in response to requests
from rape crisis centers. The Information Specialist maintains the referral
database.
Non-Exempt Position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Responds to Requests for Information: Conducts research, identifies
appropriate materials and delivers information requested by clients.
Conducts follow-up with clients to assess effectiveness of information provided.

Information and Referral: Maintains database of experts, facilitates
delivery of annual survey used to update database, and provides referral in
response to requests from clients.

Library Operations: Assists Librarian with day to day operations of the
library including; identification of potential materials, shelving,
cataloging, and circulation. Assists in production of printed catalog.

Additional Duties: Provide a courteous and efficient response to inquiries
from a wide variety of individuals and organizations. Assess requests for
services to ensure appropriate response. Participates in maintenance of
CalCASA web site.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Knowledge of sexual assault issues and non-profit operations preferred.
2. Experience conducting research utilizing a wide range of sources
including printed material, internet, databases, lexus/nexus and
identification of alternative information sources.
3. Experience in a specialty library preferred. Experienced with library
cataloguing systems.
4. Ability to recognize and identify information of value to clients and
staff, ability to synthesize information to ensure usefulness to clients.
5. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including technical
writing skills to develop clear, concise communications.
6. Knowledge and application of data base and word-processing systems
including Microsoft Office 97, Windows 97/NT, Winnebago, web page
management, internet systems, and Lexus/Nexus.
7. Must be organized, flexible, and multi-task oriented. Able to identify
and respond to shifting priorities. A self-starter that can work within a
team environment juggle a variety of tasks with urgent deadlines and be
detail oriented.
8. Ability to maintain cooperative and professional demeanor with rape
crisis center staff and volunteers, agency staff/board, vendors,
consultants, and members of the public. Enjoyment in interacting with
people and creating an accessible environment.
9. Accept and abide by the mission and philosophy of CalCASA.
10. Willingness to complete a California rape crisis center sexual assault
victim counselor training, if not already attended.
11. Valid California Drivers License, reliable transportation and insurance.
12. CalCASA is an at-will employer.
