I've used Acrobat, but never TIFF software. I find Acrobat to be
quite useful. First of all, its reader plug-in is free, widely
available on the web, and very easy to install. Further, since a lot
of web sites are using pdf files these days, many users have already
got the plug-in. From a technical standpoint, in addition to image
files, Acrobat allows you to capture text in an image and save it as
text rather than as a bitmapped image. This yields tremendous savings
in terms of file size for documents that consist primarily or largely
of text. This feature also allows you to index text documents, making
them searchable and (theoretically) accessible to disabled (blind)
users.

On the other hand, if you're looking for software to capture images
AS IMAGES (ie, not primarily text), Acrobat image files tend to be
_very_ large compared to any compressed image file format. In this
case, I would certainly go with something else. If you intend to post
output to the web, I would think twice about using tiff, as it is not
yet a widely supported file format for web browsers. If you want the
materials to be easily accessible on the web, you are kind of limited
to jpeg or gif formats, and gif is not really appropriate for large
files.

Has anyone used Adobe Acrobat in their library or personal home?
If so, can I get some feed-back as to your opinion of using Acrobat as
opposed to using a software that create TIFF Images.

TIA
Bobby
