Leaving aside the larger issue of the absurdity, in a democracy, of
having to obtain the permission of a private (foreign) entity to make a
copy of all or any part of the law, the Supreme Court today denied
West's petitions for cert in which it requested review of last fall's 2d
Circuit decisions which held that West does not have a copyright in the
page numbers in its reporters, or in the text of the decisions reported
