Sharon LaCourse, Co-Chair of the Connecticut Library Association's Customer
Service Committee, to speak at upcoming AALL Videoconference to be held in New
Haven.

The Lillian Goldman Library at Yale Law School is pleased to serve as a host
site for the annual videoconference presented by the American Association of
Law Libraries (AALL) and West Group. The program this year is entitled Quality
Customer Service: Beyond "How May I Help You?", and will be held on Thursday,
April 15, 1999 in the Steinbach Lounge, at 52 Hillhouse Ave., New Haven, CT.

The program speakers will be Dr. Darlene Weingand, Professor at the University
of Wisconsin, Madison School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) and
Faculty Director of SLIS Continuing Education Services, and Ms. Pat Wagner,
Owner and Principal of Pattern Research, a 24year old research and training
firm in Denver, Colorado. Please visit the AALL website at
http://www.aallnet.org for more information about the program.

The program at the Yale host site will begin with a luncheon at 11:00 a.m. and
introductory remarks by Sharon LaCourse. The videoconference will run from
12:00-1:30 p.m. Following the broadcast, participants are invited to remain
and join in a discussion, led by Sharon, of the issues raised during the
videoconference.

Sharon LaCourse has been in public library service for over 20 years. She has
held her current position, Director of the Terryville Public Library, for the
past 12 years. Sharon received her MLS from Southern Connecticut State
University in 1987.

In 1997 Robert Gallucci, president of the Connecticut Library Association,
asked Sharon to co-chair a newly formed committee called the Customer Service
Committee. With the assistance of the State Library that committee proposed
the EFFECTIVE CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING workshops currently being offered to
all CT library staff. This year CLA will make that committee a full section of
the CLA board to encourage all libraries to promote positive customer service.

The registration fee is $25.00 per person payable at the conference (includes
lunch) and is limited to 50 participants. To register please contact Tracy
Thompson via e-mail at tracy.thompson@yale.edu, or by phone at (203)
432-7371.
