Roberta Katz, Netscape General Counsel, to Speak at AALL Annual Meeting in
Washington, D.C.

Roberta R. Katz, author of Justice Matters: Rescuing the Legal System for
the 21st Century, will speak at the first plenary session during the 92nd
Annual Meeting of the American Association of Law Libraries in Washington,
D.C., July 17-22, 1999. Katz will speak on Sunday, July 18, 1999 at 1:15
p.m. about her ideas on reforming the civil justice system for the 21st
Century.

Katz is the Senior Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel of Netscape
Communications Corporation. Before becoming an attorney, Katz was a
cultural anthropologist. Her interest in technological and social change
led her to study the effects of the Information Age on the American civil
justice system. Her book, Justice Matters, reports the results of her study
and proposes a civil justice system that would organize courts by subject
matter, would make greater use of court-appointed experts, and would require
more subject-matter expertise from judges and juries. A member of the Board
of Directors of the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) -
Software Division and the Governor's (California) Electronic Commerce
Advisory Council, Katz was recently named one of "The Fifty Most Influential
Women Lawyers in America" by the National Law Journal.
