Although I am not working in an academic law library any more, I still have an interest in this thread of discussion.

I particularly commend Bill Taylor's reply, especially his enumeration of the pros and cons. He is absolutely correct about librarians presenting objective (less sales-driven) views of the products involved, as well as the importance of both CALR and print research. In the firm setting, we face the fallout of these issues every May with summer associates, as well as every Fall with incoming first year associates.

I hope the academic librarians continue this hard work. I know it is time-consuming, but in the long-run it helps the students become better researchers (and it helps us firm librarians out, too!).
