I asked the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Here's a summary of the
responses I received.
After I sent out the summary, someone also recommended checking UCC
filings for the FIEN.

Thanks very much to Jim Senter, Jane McMahon, Sue Taylor, Vija Doks,
Malia P. Horine, Steve Whiteside, Janet Darby, Lillian Fry, Liz Doyle
and Steven Frankenstein for telling me about the FEIN D&B file on LEXIS
and KNOWX. Okay, so I'm the ONLY one in the world that didn't know
it's there. :-)
The LEXIS and KNOWX files have the same source, and I'm guessing that
some of the other online vendors probably provide the same database as
well. It's not comprehensive, and my number wasn't there, but it was
definitely worth trying. It did include private companies, probably
those that voluntarily provided the information to D&B.
I also searched the Bankruptcy library on LEXIS at the recommendation of
Malinda Mueller, and didn't find it, but the FEIN numbers are
included there, and it was a good thing to try.
I really appreciate everyone's help. I now feel much better about
telling the attorney I couldn't find it, as I think I've hit the
likely sources.
