The Associate Director for Public Services is an Executive rank
position, reporting to the Director of Libraries, and is a member of the
Senior Management Team. This position leads the Reference Department (4
professional librarians) and the Access Services Department (6+ FTE) at
the Main Library and works closely with the three branches. This
position assumes significant responsibility for strategic planning of
the Library's mission, leaving the Director more time to deal with
external agencies and increasing revenues. It also includes chairing
the Collection Development Committee and working at the reference desk
twelve to fifteen hours a week.
This challenging and complex position requires a highly organized,
disciplined person, who is also out-going, persuasive, and inventive,
committed to public service, and has his or her heart in the job. The

people find real justice, being on the vanguard of social and
philosophical issues that confront modern American society, and
developing good professional staff.
Minimum Requirements: M.L.S., plus seven to ten years professional law
library experience, including supervision, and highly developed computer
skills in a public services context. Desirable Attributes: J.D.,
experience in another county law library or similar entity, work with
the public, administrative and budget experience, public relations and
marketing experience, TQM or similar training.
Salary: $55,000 - 68,000, depending on credentials. Excellent health

This entry level position for a reference librarian at the Main Library
requires strong commitment to public service, as the primary
responsibility is to provide reference assistance to citizens
researching their own legal affairs, as well as to judges, attorneys,
and other members of the legal community. This position requires
knowledge of manual and online legal reference and research methods.
Additional duties are collection development, coaching customers on
manual and automated systems, and bibliographic projects. One of four
reference librarians in the department, the position reports to the
Associate Director for Public Services. The position requires one
evening per week and rotating Saturday hours.
Qualifications: MLS with some law library experience required; or a JD
with prior law library experience required and willing to make a written
commitment to pursue an MLS. Experience with current computer
applications—word processing, Internet, Lexis and/or Westlaw, and CD-ROM
legal databases—required. Salary range: $33,785 - $39,264. Excellent
