I was rather surprised to learn this afternoon that Lexis Eclipse searches
are not transferable between the research software and web access. WestClip
searches are keyed to the user ID, so they can be accessed whether the
researcher uses Westlaw through WestMate or the web (thank you again o
great dark tower!), but Eclipse on the web doesn't recognize searches saved
using the research software -- or vice versa.
I just called Lexis Customer Service to ask about this bug, and was told
that they considered that a "feature," and not a "bug" or "problem." Does
it make sense to have to remember which access method you use each time, or
to have to check both methods each day for new information? I don't think
so. Does this give Westlaw a substantial advantage? You betcha.
