I agree *entirely*. Couldn't agree more.
The point I was making is that there are *many* species of professionals
and not only librarians.
In fact, my comments were in no way directed at the first of the 2 articles
to which you referred.
They were directed to the article, "Why Librarians Should Rule The Net",
which is not in fact a new article, but one I first read, (and objected
to), in September 1996 when it was first published in E-Node at:-

And the Internet is a *vastly* different place in February 1999 than it was
when Schneidermann wrote his article in September 1996.
I can assure all of you that I am well aware of the difference between
rhetorical and literal speech, and even know what hyperbole is ;-)
After spending 3 years in academia it's pretty hard to leave it without
having discovered the meaning of the latter !!!
But I'd be most surprised if Schneidermann thought he was writing rhetoric
or hyperbole.
